THE GINGER CREAM COOKIE TRADITION and growing up!

Since I can remember, my Mom, my sister and I have always made Ginger cream Cookies.  It is a tradition.
Whether together or separated by hundreds of miles.  It is a tradition.
This recipe is none like I have ever came across before, much like my Grandmother whom the recipe came from.

To start gather all of the ingredients and combine them. We learned to have my Dad close because neither of us were quite Strong enough to fully incorporate all of the flour.
Same as in life when a child never wants to get too far away from her parents for fear that she might get hurt, or worse, fail.

Sugar, shortening, molasses, eggs, and flour.  The main ingredients. Like getting through that awkward stage in life that most young people go through before finding comfort in their own skin. Tradition.

Cinnamon, ginger, allspice, and nutmeg.  Let the fun begin.  This is when the recipe starts to really become something.  Growing from generic to specific.  Glowing with taste and creativity.  Setting itself apart from all the other recipes.  Tradition.

After rolling the dough balls and marrying them with white sugar.
Place them gently onto a cookie sheet and carefully into the oven to bake.  Growing up.  Starting a new life with that one soul mate that everyone has.

Celebrate the victory of a beautiful, delicious Ginger Cream Cookie.  And starting a tradition with your children.

I am quite sure that my mother used to make these cookies with her mother and 2 sisters as well.
Starting The Ginger cream Cookie tradition in our family.
A tradition where laughing, baking, storytelling, and enjoying life and each other began.
